Introduction

The Residential Development Team acts for a broad range of developers, affordable housing providers, local authorities, promoters, and landowners.

Developments we work on range from 5 to 4,000 dwellings and can take 10 years or more, providing team members with opportunities to build long-standing client relationships and take pride in their schemes.

Team Role and Opportunities

Members actively participate in marketing, practice development, and delivering high-quality service to clients. This is a great chance to join a successful, growing firm with excellent career prospects. You will be based in one of four offices, collaborating locally and cross-office with team members.

Career Progression

Our Legal Talent framework allows Solicitors to become Associates after 3-4 years and Senior Associates after 6 years, with further promotion to Legal Director and Partner. We seek ambitious, driven candidates eager to grow with us and offer first-class training and a clear career path.

Responsibilities
  1. Support senior fee earners on residential development and land transactions, including options, contracts, and promotion agreements.
  2. Handle affordable housing transactions for Registered Providers and private developers.
  3. Conduct title due diligence, searches, and site visits.
  4. Understand infrastructure delivery, working on transfers and easements.
  5. Manage lender requirements for development funding.
  6. Collaborate with other specialties within Birketts for comprehensive advice.
  7. Draft documents accurately and commercially.
  8. Develop client relationships through early responsibility and networking.
  9. Coordinate with the plot sales team for site setup and handover, noting this role does not support plot sales functions.
Candidate Profile

We are hiring two solicitors for our Residential Development Team on a full-time, permanent basis. Ideally, you trained at a reputable city, national, or regional firm and have experience in residential development, aiming to specialize further in this area.
