The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a varied caseload of probate matters, including both taxable and non-taxable estates. You will advise clients on wills, inheritance tax planning, and Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs). This is a client-facing role requiring excellent technical knowledge, efficiency, and strong interpersonal skills. You will be instrumental in supporting the growth of the department through proactive business development and commercial insight. You will be required to work with a team and independently.
Key Responsibilities
Manage end-to-end probate matters from initial instruction through to estate
distribution, including complex and high-value estates.
Provide clear advice on estate administration, inheritance tax implications, and how to
reduce liability.
Draft and advise on wills, including trusts and some tax planning.
Prepare and register Lasting Powers of Attorney.
Ensure full compliance with all regulatory and firm-wide risk and quality standards.
Supervise and support team members.
Assist in business development to grow the department.
Requirements
Qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive, or STEP-qualified Probate Practitioner.
Minimum 5 years PQE in private client work, specifically probate, wills, and LPAs.
Strong technical knowledge of estate administration and inheritance tax.
Commercially aware with an ability to identify business opportunities.
Excellent communication and client care skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to manage a varied caseload.
A proactive, team-oriented attitude with a desire to contribute to departmental growth.
STEP membership or willingness to work towards it.
Experience in building and leading a department or team (desirable but no necessary).
