Role Overview:

We’re looking for a UK-qualified lawyer with experience or strong interest in insurance law and claims handling. This role supports the CERT team with reviewing insurance policies, assisting with claims assessments, and contributing to breach response efforts. Ideal for someone with early in-house or private practice experience who’s ready to grow into a broader commercial legal role.

This role will provide review, assessment, advice, and expertise in the management of the claims process to support CyberClan’s delivery of Incident Response projects, including analysis of claims and providing recommendations for resolution.

We are seeking an experienced claims professional to join our team and assist in handling intricate primary and excess Cyber, Tech, and Media policies, as well as future Executive Risks and Management Professional Liability. You will also manage/collaborate with vendors, including breach counsel, defense counsel, and coverage counsel for partner carriers.

This role will also support breach response efforts, helping to manage the immediate impact of security incidents with timely, practical advice. The role involves close coordination with IT, legal, and other internal teams to ensure a swift and organized response.

Responsibilities of Role:

  • Handle the intake of severe cyber events, including coordination with breach counsel, forensic investigators, and other vendors
  • Evaluate the full pending of claims and recommend accurate reserves
  • Manage litigation including third-party liability arising from security failure or data breaches, Media and Tech E&O
  • Maintain accurate and timely file documentation in our claims system
  • Assess liability and damage data in complex claims, maintaining appropriate documentation
  • Assess insurance coverage issues
  • Guide and track third-party vendors and service providers
  • Maintain and develop relationships with brokers, risk managers, general counsel, and vendors
  • Identify settlement opportunities to maximize impact and preserve limits
  • Collaborate in the defense and resolution of claims
  • Provide data and informational assistance to underwriters
  • Assist the business development team with marketing
  • Liaise with carriers daily
  • Serve as a member of a 24x7/365 service delivery team handling incident response, post-breach remediation, and escalation
  • Coordinate with external legal advisers and insurers during complex or high-value matters
  • Support contract negotiations by reviewing and advising on insurance and liability clauses
  • Research legal and regulatory developments related to insurance, data protection, money services, and new jurisdictions, summarizing findings for internal use
  • Draft and review standard contract clauses related to insurance and liability
  • Maintain legal records and ensure documentation is accurate and accessible
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments in insurance, data protection, and risk management
  • Support breach response and crisis management efforts with timely legal input during security incidents
  • Assist in planning and delivering breach simulations and tabletop exercises
  • Collaborate with marketing and business development on external initiatives, including client briefings and industry events
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements/Must Haves:

  • UK-qualified solicitor with 2+ years post-qualification experience in insurance law (in-house or private practice)
  • Proven experience advising on insurance claims and policy coverage
  • Working knowledge of UK data protection laws, cyber insurance, and breach response practices
  • Ability to make sound legal judgments independently and communicate clearly to non-legal stakeholders
  • Strong coverage background
  • Experience working as part of or leading a team, meeting goals, and adapting to changing environments
  • Excellent communication skills, proactive mindset, and collaborative approach

Assets/Nice-to-Have:

  • Previous in-house experience within a regulated sector
  • Experience working alongside breach coaches during cyber incidents
  • Familiarity with cross-border insurance or multinational policy frameworks
