Job description

We are recruiting for an exciting opportunity to join Stone King’s highly regarded Employment team, with a particular focus on supporting our nationally renowned Education practice. This role offers the chance to build your employment law career while working with a diverse and purpose-driven client base that includes state schools, further education colleges, charities, social enterprises and businesses.

If you’re a newly qualified solicitor with employment law experience and are looking to develop your skills within a supportive and collaborative environment, this could be the perfect next step in your career. We're looking for someone who enjoys building client relationships, thrives on solving complex workplace challenges, and is keen to develop specialist expertise while working alongside recognised sector experts.

You’ll play an important role in advising clients on a broad range of employment matters, from day-to-day HR issues and contractual arrangements through to Employment Tribunal claims and complex organisational changes. Working closely with colleagues across the firm, you'll have the opportunity to develop your technical expertise, build strong client relationships and establish yourself as a trusted adviser within the education sector and beyond.

With hybrid and remote working options available, this role offers flexibility alongside the opportunity to join an ambitious, values-led firm that is committed to supporting the development and wellbeing of its people.

Why This Role?
  • Develop your employment law expertise within a highly regarded national Employment team.
  • Work predominantly with education sector clients, including schools and further education colleges.
  • Gain exposure to a broad range of employment matters across education, charity, social enterprise and business sectors.
  • Build advocacy, advisory and client relationship skills while working closely with experienced specialists.
  • Benefit from flexible, hybrid and remote working options.
  • Join a purpose-driven firm where wellbeing, collaboration and professional development genuinely matter.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Advising clients on a wide range of employment law matters and providing pragmatic, commercially focused solutions.
  • Managing your own Employment Tribunal caseload, with supervision where appropriate.
  • Reviewing, drafting and advising on contracts of employment and other employment-related documentation.
  • Advising clients on disciplinary, grievance and workplace investigation matters.
  • Supporting clients on TUPE, restructures and organisational change projects.
  • Advising on discrimination and equality issues, including disability, age, religion or belief, and sex discrimination.
  • Assisting clients with termination negotiations, settlement agreements and workplace disputes.
  • Preparing and managing cases for Employment Tribunal hearings, including advocacy where appropriate.
  • Working closely with the firm's HR Consultancy team to provide coordinated support to clients.
  • Building strong client relationships through regular contact, meetings and ongoing support.
  • Contributing to business development initiatives, networking activities and sector-focused marketing efforts.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the Employment team and wider firm to deliver exceptional client service.
What We’re Looking For
  • A newly qualified Solicitor with experience in Employment Law
  • A genuine passion for employment law and a commitment to continued learning and professional development
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
  • High attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Confidence working collaboratively with colleagues and clients
  • Strong IT literacy and ability to work effectively in a modern hybrid environment
  • A client-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering exceptional service
  • Experience gained in a similar employment law role
  • Exposure to Employment Tribunal proceedings and advocacy
  • Experience advising education sector clients, schools or colleges
  • Knowledge of charity or social enterprise organisations and the employment issues they face
Why Stone King?

We’re a purpose-driven, people-first firm that values wellbeing, flexibility and professional growth. You'll join a collaborative and supportive culture where learning is encouraged, expertise is shared and your development is genuinely prioritised. Working alongside leading employment and education specialists, you'll have the opportunity to build a rewarding career while making a real difference to organisations that positively impact their communities.
