Job summary

Vital Energi requires an Electrical/Solar Engineer with commercial PV experience to strengthen the North West O&M team. The role involves covering sites across Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Blackpool and beyond, ensuring safe, efficient operation of PV and energy systems.

As Solar O&M Plant Room Engineer, you will manage plant rooms in energy centres and hospital sites, perform maintenance, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with 18th Edition BS7671 and related standards.

Qualifications

• Hold City & Guilds electrical qualification or equivalent (e.g. 18th Edition Wiri ng Regulations).
• Experience with commercial solar PV inverters, DC string testing, and safe electrical isolation.
• Full UK manual driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Oversee, operate and maintain solar PV plant equipment (inverters, DC/AC distribution boards, string combiners, isolator switches, monitoring hardware).
• Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance to minimize downtime and maximize energy yield.
• Monitor system performance, solar irradiance levels, DC/AC voltages and overall energy efficiency.

RolesandResponsibilities:

• Oversee,operate,andmaintainsolarPVplantequipment(inverters,DC/ACdistributionboards,stringcombiners,isolationswitchgear,monitoringhardware,etc.).

• Carryoutriskassessments,methodstatements,andfollowstricthealth&safetyprotocols(PermittoWorksystems).
• Assistinplantupgrades,solarretrofits,andcommissioningofnewgenerationequipment.
• Maintainaccuraterecordsofmaintenance,electricaltesting,inspections,andsystemperformance.
• Completejobsheets,electricaltestcertificates,andcompliancedocumentation.

Whatyouwillneed

• HoldaCity&Guildselectricalqualificationorequivalent(e.g.,NVQLevel3,18thEditionWiringRegulations).
• ExperiencewithcommercialsolarPVinverters,DCstringtesting,andsafeelectricalisolation.
• FullUKmanualdrivinglicence.
