Job description

Astute's Renewables team is partnered with an internationally recognised, utility-scale solar developer and operator. We are looking to recruit a Solar Field Service Engineer to join their growing operations and maintenance team in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas.

The strategically important Solar Field Service Technician role offers a basic salary up to £40,000 (higher for HVAPs), on-call rota enhanced pay (1 weekend in 5), own van and fuel cards, private health insurance, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, and more.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Area Supervisor, you will:

  • Take primary responsibility for solar plant performance, site optimisation, and equipment availability.
  • Perform pre-planned and reactive maintenance across solar farms, including electrical maintenance, solar panel cleaning, and HV maintenance (if HV qualified).
  • Help resolve work tickets and report issues to your line manager, compiling reports of completed works.
  • Liaise with internal and external teams, including in-house LV/HV personnel, grounds team, and subcontractors.
  • Provide mentoring and training to junior technicians where required.
  • Participate in the company's on-call rota for non-working hours, including Bank Holidays and weekends (1 weekend in 5), with on-call allowances.
Professional qualifications

We seek candidates with:

  • Experience in industrial or utility-scale solar is preferred; however, an industrial electrician background is also of interest.
  • City and Guilds or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Electrical Engineering, Installation, Testing & Inspection, or similar.
  • 18th edition wiring regulations.
  • High Voltage Authorization is advantageous but not essential.
  • A full UK driving licence due to the remote site locations.
