Job summary

Nexus Design Group is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to own the end-to-end electrical design for utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects in the UK. You will work from Concept through Construction-stage IFC packages and produce client-ready deliverables with minimal supervision.

The role is hands-on, not a reviewer, requiring delivery of layouts, BOQs, and detailed calculations, including PVsyst modelling, cable sizing, and inverter selection. UK standards knowledge essential.

Qualifications

• 5–8+ years of electrical design experience in utility-scale Solar PV and/or BESS.
• Ability to deliver design packages independently with client-ready outputs.
• Experience with PVsyst for yield modelling and P50/P90 reporting.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD for 3D layout, SLD, and general arrangement drawings.

• Solar PV layout design and stringing/DC-AC cabling topology.
• DC-coupled Solar+BESS hybrid architecture, including DC metering design.
• Energy yield modelling and P50/P90 reporting.
• Inverter selection and sizing (string and central).
• Full cable sizing calculations: current rating, voltage drop, short-circuit withstand.
• Cable pulling calculations: conduit/trench fill ratios, pulling tension, sidewall bearing pressure.
• Preliminary and detailed BOQ production.
• Site visit reports and constraints assessment.

Job description

You'll own electrical design for utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects end-to-end — from Concept through Construction-stage IFC packages — with the autonomy to run a project's electrical scope without senior sign-off. This is a hands-on design role, not a reviewer/oversight position: you're expected to produce client-ready deliverables independently.

Responsibilities

• Preliminary and detailed BOQ production
• Site visit reports and constraints assessment

Qualifications

• 5–8+ years' electrical design experience in utility-scale Solar PV and/or BESS, with demonstrated ability to deliver design packages independently
• PVsyst — yield modelling and P50/P90 report generation
• Cableizer — cable sizing and voltage drop calculations
• AutoCAD — 3D layout, SLD, general arrangement drawings
• Working knowledge of inverter platforms (Sungrow, Huawei, Power Electronics) and battery chemistries (CATL or equivalent) advantageous

Standards

IEC 60364 / BS 7671 (electrical installations) IEC 60502 (power cables 1kV–30kV) IEC 61439 (LV switchgear and controlgear assemblies) BS 7430 (earthing)

Nice to have

• IEng/CEng (IET), or working towards
• Experience on greenfield and landfill/brownfield sites
• Experience delivering projects to UK standards / within the UK renewables market
