Soils & Materials Testing Technician

About Us:

DGL Testing Services Ltd is a UKAS-accredited testing company specialising in the testing of bituminous materials, soils, aggregates, and concrete used in road and highways construction. With a fully equipped laboratory in Newington, Sittingbourne, and on-site testing across the South of England, we work on a wide variety of projects delivering critical testing services to ensure construction quality and compliance.

The Role:

We are seeking a versatile and motivated Soils & Materials Testing Technician to join our team. This role will primarily focus on soils testing, with additional materials testing responsibilities when required. Testing is carried out both on-site and in our laboratory, and full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):

  • Performing on-site and in-lab testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt in accordance with current British and European Standards
  • Collecting and testing soil samples using methods such as:
    • Sand replacement (small and large cylinder)
    • Core cutter for density
    • Nuclear density and moisture testing
    • Plate bearing and CBR testing
    • Lightweight deflectometer (LWD), dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP), and hand shear vane (HSV)
  • Conducting on-site compliance testing of construction materials (concrete cubes, fresh concrete, aggregates, etc.)
  • Preparing accurate daily digital reports
  • Travelling to multiple sites across the South-East of England
  • Maintaining, cleaning, and checking the calibration of testing equipment

Candidate Profile:

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Ideally, experience in the construction testing industry, having carried out some or all of the testing described
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
  • Detail-oriented with excellent record-keeping skills
  • Physically fit and capable of working on active construction sites
  • Flexible with working hours, including nights and weekends
  • In possession of a full UK driving licence
  • (Optional but beneficial) Holder of a current CSCS card
