Software Team Lead – National Security Sector – eDV Cleared
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading organisation delivering mission‑critical technology solutions within the UK National Security sector. This is a hands‑on technical leadership role for an experienced engineer who wants to lead from the front, shaping technical direction and mentoring a team, without the weight of traditional line management.
The Role
- Provide technical direction within a scrum team, working closely with the engineering lead
- Support the team in decomposing user requirements and key results into epics and stories
- Write clean, secure code following a test‑driven approach
- Produce code that is open by default and reusable across teams
- Translate logical designs into physical designs and produce detailed technical documentation
- Work across established and emerging technologies, identifying appropriate patterns for use
- Integrate API/UI components with existing data stores and APIs
- Maintain and develop core architectural components, including data ingest, data stores, and REST APIs
- Participate fully in agile ceremonies — stand‑ups, epic decomposition, demos, and planning
- Advise the wider team on upcoming API features and their downstream impact
- Collaborate with user researchers, representing user needs internally and distinguishing user needs from user desires
What You'll Bring- ideal candidates will have some of the following
- Proficiency in one or more of: Python, Java, Golang, JavaScript, or C++
- Front‑end framework experience — React, VueJS, or AngularJS
- Familiarity with web solutions such as Node.js, Nginx, Caddy, or Uvicorn
- Understanding of relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) databases
- Containerisation experience — Docker, Podman, K8s
- Exposure to cloud platforms — AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure
- Scripting ability in Bash or PowerShell
- A "just in time" learning mindset, comfortable adopting new technologies and paradigms at pace
