Software Product Support Engineer

Location: Bristol

Duration: 6 months

Rate: Up to £68 per hour Umbrella

Our client is looking for a capable software engineer who can support their in-service missile-system middleware solutions and work as part of a small team to investigate and fix issues as they arise.

Working across multiple applications on both land and maritime projects in the systems software department, this role allows for involvement in many of the most advanced missile systems in the world, across multiple warfare domains.

Debugging and engineering investigation is a big part of the job, as the software is complex, and they require someone with an inquisitive nature to be able to investigate issues and discuss solutions with customers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Configuration, support, and maintenance of Linux Operating Systems (OS).
2. Debugging and engineering investigation of software issues.
3. Clear communication of technical matters to non-technical stakeholders.
4. Collaboration with team members to resolve emerging issues.

Proven Ability / Key Skills:

1. Proven ability with C or C++ (At least one of these is essential), Ada, and/or JavaScript, shell scripting languages with a solid background in software engineering.
2. Proven ability configuring and maintaining Linux OSs (Redhat and/or Ubuntu) including Kernel configuration and Kernel test.
3. A passion for software engineering, with the ability to innovate and think critically to understand and solve complex software problems.
