Rivan Industries is reshaping the synthetic fuel landscape from its Bermondsey HQ in London. We seek a senior software engineer to ship production-grade tools for hardware teams, integrating full-stack solutions with AI agents and rigorous tooling pipelines.

You will own end-to-end architecture, deployment, and iteration, collaborating with hardware, chemical, and controls engineers to deliver safe, scalable software that accelerates our modular plant development.

Qualifications

• Proven experience shipping production systems end-to-end.
• Experience designing APIs and data structures (Conjure/Protobuf a plus).
• Able to work with hardware engineers and AI agents.

Job description

Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a vertically integrated synthetic fuel company, producing the cheapest synthetic fuels on earth. Our aim is to make life sustainable on earth by making synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels.

We design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC (CO2) system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, whilst vertically integrating with off-grid DC solar and the European gas-grid. We’ve recently deployed the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant, a 60,000 sqft Production Facility, and are now scaling up.

The challenge – ship hardware like software

• To make synthetic fuel cheap, we have to continuously improve our machines. Traditional hardware design cycles take years – that’s too slow.
• Soon we’ll build dozens, then hundreds, then thousands of machines per year. Each with a chance to be better than the previous.
• We can only do this efficiently and safely with the right engineering software toolchain.
• Modern software teams ship to production daily through tools like IDEs, git, automatic dependency management, lint, CI & CD, monitoring and vulnerability scanning.
• You help us build the equivalents, but for hardware; used by human engineers and AI agents alike

How you work

• You start by taking over controls & safety tools that already work but aren’t finished yet
• You work directly with the hardware, chemical and controls engineers who use what you build
• You measure success by adoption and impact of what you build
• You enjoy moving your tools from useful to finished – and keep them low maintenance so you can expand
• You take end-to-end ownership: architecture, deployment, maintenance and iteration

Core skills

• Strong full-stack software engineering, able to ship production systems end-to-end (frontend, backend, data)
• Solid knowledge of what a good dev toolchain looks like
• Experience designing APIs and data structures in Conjure, protobufs or similar
• You ship with AI coding agents, but keep the results clean, well architected and reviewable
• Strong first-principles reasoning
• No hardware background required; we care that you learn fast

Specifics

• £100 - 120k Salary depending on experience
