Job description

Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground.

We design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, whilst vertically integrating with off‑grid DC solar and the European gas‑grid. Here’s our entire business plan. We’ve recently deployed the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant and are planning to 1000x this scale in the next 2 years.

Do you want to work on the end-to-end design of one the most innovative process systems on Earth, where you deploy 1 system a week, not 1 system a decade like most incumbents?

There is no boilerplate engineering in this system, only the most innovative, problem solving engineers can thrive on this problem. We practice our culture, working in small teams, expecting complete ownership and ground up reasoning from our engineers, whilst executing at speed.

We operate with minimal process and bureaucracy, only what is essential to ensure our systems are safe, legally compliant, and deployed on time, everything else is up to you.

The role encompasses the full development cycle, but can be tailored to the specialist skillset of the applicant:

Have full responsibility for the effective operation of our site.

Site Maintenance
  • Manage all tooling on site, making sure we have the right tools at the right time with adequate spares
  • Assist with assembly and commissioning of all new hardware on site(s)
  • Safe operation of cranes, forklifts and other lifting equipment
  • Make required adjustments to any hardware, including drilling, cutting and joining of systems
  • Basic electrical wiring and connection
  • Carry out routine maintenance & inspection cycles
  • Maintain cleanliness of the site and system at all times
Site operation
  • Help operate the system safely in-line with standard operating procedures (SoPs). Including:
  • Safe shut‑down process
Manage all stakeholders (Landlord, electrical, construction etc) operating on site
  • Communicate effectively with landlord on updates, changes, and requests
  • Organise entry, work and departure
  • This may include food & accommodation
  • Plan, organise and manage the work to be carried out
  • Source specialist contractors for various projects
Safety
  • Enforcing strict adherence to the safety policy at all times, including briefing of any new visitors
  • Continually update and add to the policy based on new learnings
Core skills:
  • 5+ year professional experience
  • Experience running chemical plants or large-scale mechanical systems
  • Great communication and analytical skills
Preferable but non-essential skills:
  • Bachelor’s or Masters in chemical engineering or related field
  • Experience designing and building deployed hardware
  • System commissioning experience
Specifics:
  • £50-60k Salary depending on experience
  • Share options as part of the early team
  • In-person work at our site in Wroughton, Swindon
  • Including some work at our HQ in London

We encourage exceptional applicants from all backgrounds to apply for this role, even if they do not meet all the requirements listed.
