Job summary

Rolls-Royce plc is seeking a Software/Hardware Integration Engineer for the Dreadnought program, based onsite in Glasgow. You will validate complex subsystems by integrating software, FPGA and hardware, delivering robust artefacts through verification and validation activities.

You will work with multiple engineering teams to ensure timely delivery, quality and adherence to change control and safety-critical constraints. This is an on-site role supporting a high-profile submarine programme.

Qualifications

• Degree in software/electronics engineering or related discipline.
• Experience with field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA).
• Experience integrating complex electronic products including fault diagnosis.

Responsibilities

• Develop test documentation, plans, procedures, and automated scripts.
• Perform LRU-level testing and environment tests across a range.
• Create automated tests for FPGA designs and validate against DOORS requirements.
• Conduct failure investigations and root cause analysis.
• Maintain change control and traceability to design requirements.
• Support audits, design reviews, and verification activities.
• Collaborate with software, systems, hardware, FPGA, and safety teams.

Job Description Job Title: Software/ Hardware Integration Engineer - Submarines Working Pattern: Mon-Fri, 37 hours, days (Full time) Working location: Glasgow (Onsite role)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Software/Hardware Integration Engineer to join the Dreadnought team based in Glasgow. Working as part of this high-profile engineering programme, you will play a key role in the integration, verification and validation of complex systems, bringing together software, FPGA and hardware components.

As a Software/Hardware Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for validating complex sub-systems and ensuring the timely delivery and quality of the artefacts associated with system integration, verification and validation. You will work closely with a range of engineering teams to support the successful delivery of robust and effective solutions.

What you will be doing:

• Develop test documentation, including test plans, procedures, reports and automated test scripts.
• Develop test equipment solutions and conduct Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) level testing across a range of functionality and environmental tests.
• Develop automated testing procedures for FPGA designs and support detailed integration testing against DOORS requirements.
• Conduct failure investigations and root cause analysis, applying structured problem-solving techniques.
• Ensure adherence to change control, configuration management and established development processes, demonstrating solution correctness and traceability to design requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing cost and timescales while improving quality.
• Support process and technical audits, product design reviews and verification activities.
• Liaise closely with software, systems, hardware, programmable hardware (FPGA) and safety teams to deliver integrated solutions.

Who we’re looking for:

• Qualified to degree level, In Software or Electronics Engineering, or related discipline
• Experience with field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA)
• Experienced in integrating complex electronic products, fault finding and diagnosis.
• Experienced in one of digital electronics design and verification, programmable logic device design and verification, software design and verification or real-time systems, and awareness of the others.
• Self-motivated and enthusiastic to become familiar with new techniques and tools, Awareness of safety-critical development constraints (e.g. IEC62566).
• Experienced in timing analysis.
