JOB BAND: D
CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent, Full-time
DEPARTMENT: BBC Product Group - Bitesize
LOCATION: Glasgow – Pacific Quay
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £75,000 - £85,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Our Bitesize team is seeking a Software Engineering Team Lead to help develop the future of the education product. You will guide engineers, support their career aspirations, and collaborate with discipline leads and editorial stakeholders to deliver high-quality, sustainable solutions that meet user needs.

  • People: Recruit, mentor, coach and manage staff, ensuring quality of work and professional development.
  • Environment: Create a positive, diverse working culture and align across teams with department leaders and peers.
  • Technical Expertise: Work across the technical community to improve software, share knowledge and enhance processes.
  • User Focus: Deliver solutions that meet the needs of users.
Your Skills and Experience

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Track record of growing engineers with mentoring, coaching and development.
  • Experience building user-facing accessible front-end products using React, TypeScript, NodeJS.
  • Experience building APIs and back-end services using AWS technologies (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, CloudFormation).
  • Ability to manage multiple product and technical priorities with practical decision making in a collaborative cross-disciplinary team.
  • Experience measuring, shaping and improving agile practices to achieve continuous delivery.

DESIRED

  • Experience working on large mono-repo products backed by design systems.
  • Leadership of operational stability and incident management.
  • Experience with experimentation and data-driven decision making.
