Job summary

PentenAmio UK is seeking a senior software engineering leader to drive delivery and mentoring across an engineering team in Tewkesbury. The role blends hands-on software development (about 70%) with line-management (about 30%), shaping architecture and engineering practices while growing a high-performing team.

You will work closely with the Head of Software to design, review and deliver production-grade C code, CI/CD pipelines and secure development processes, in a defence-ready environment.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in software engineering with hands-on mindset.
  • Significant commercial experience developing software in C for embedded/low-level systems.
  • Experience across full software development lifecycle in product environments.
  • Knowledge of modern software engineering practices including CI/CD, code reviews and automated testing.
  • Ability to translate high-level requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • Strong communication to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience producing and reviewing high-quality technical documentation.
  • Experience supporting career progression and mentoring engineers.
  • Ability to build and lead high-performing engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain production-quality software as an active member of engineering teams.
  • Write, review and optimise high-quality code, primarily in real-time C.
  • Produce and review software architecture, design documentation and technical proposals.
  • Participate in code reviews, design reviews and engineering governance activities.
  • Support engineers through technical mentoring, pairing and collaborative problem solving.
  • Own the quality, maintainability and delivery of software solutions.
  • Apply modern software engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing and secure development.
  • Contribute to planning, estimation and technical decision making across multiple projects.
  • Drive consistency in engineering standards, tooling and development practices.
  • Line manage a team of approximately eight software engineers.
  • Conduct regular one-to-one meetings, objective setting and performance reviews.
  • Support career development through coaching, mentoring and development planning.

Typical Activities

Working closely withthe Head ofSoftware, you'll remain activesoftware engineers whileproviding leadership, coachingand technical directionacross the engineeringfunction. This roleis ideal forexperienced software engineerswho enjoy mentoringothers but stillwant to spendthe majority oftheir time designing, developing and reviewinghigh-quality software.

Software Engineering (Approximately 70%)
  • Design, develop andmaintain production-qualitysoftware as anactive member ofengineering teams

Qualifications & Eligibility

To be eligiblefor this positionyou must:

  • Hold a relevantdegree in SoftwareEngineering, Computer Science, Electronics, ComputerEngineering or equivalentprofessional experience, and;
  • Be a Britishcitizen, and;
