easyJet Airline Company PLC is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead engineers across multiple squads within a Mission, driving healthy team cultures and high performance. You’ll partner with Product and Mission Leads to deliver sustainable outcomes and improve engineering practices at scale.

You’ll coach Engineering Leads and Senior Engineers, build strong relationships, and help shape how technology teams operate within easyJet’s hybrid environment.

You can support multiple teams, develop future leaders and create an environment where engineers can do their best work. The opportunity

As Engineering Manager, you'll lead the engineers within one of easyJet's Missions. Missions are groups of around five squads aligned to a business area, responsible for building and running the technology that keeps our airline moving. You'll be accountable for the health, capability and effectiveness of the engineering teams across the Mission.

Working alongside Product teams and Mission Leads, you'll help teams deliver sustainable outcomes, improve engineering practices and create an environment where people can grow and thrive. While the roadmap and delivery ownership sit with Product and Mission leadership, you'll own the engineering side of the Mission and provide leadership to Engineering Leads and Senior Engineers across multiple squads.

The team & culture

Engineering at easyJet is organised around Missions and Squads, bringing technology teams closer to the parts of the business they support. You'll work with Engineering Leads, Senior Engineers, Product teams and Mission leadership to ensure squads remain healthy, effective and focused on delivering value.

It's a role for someone who enjoys coaching leaders, building strong relationships and driving continuous improvement. You'll work closely with other Engineering Managers to share best practices, align standards and strengthen engineering culture across the organisation.

What you’ll be doing

You'll lead, coach and develop Engineering Leads and Senior Engineers across multiple squads, supporting career development, performance and leadership capability.

You'll create healthy, sustainable teams by establishing effective ways of working, supporting engagement and retention, and helping leaders address challenges before they impact performance.

You'll remove obstacles, protect team focus and identify delivery risks while partnering with Product teams and Mission leadership to support successful outcomes. You'll also help raise engineering standards, improve technical practices and ensure teams maintain a high bar for quality across software delivery.

You'll play an important role in attracting and hiring talented engineers, building succession plans and developing future engineering leaders. Alongside this, you'll maintain technical credibility across modern software delivery, cloud technologies and engineering operations.

What we’re looking for

You'll bring experience leading engineers across multiple teams in a modern software engineering environment, ideally with responsibility for Engineering Leads, senior engineers or other people leaders.

You'll have a strong track record of developing people, creating healthy team cultures and supporting engineers through growth, change and delivery challenges.

You'll be comfortable partnering with product and business stakeholders, influencing decisions and building trusted relationships across multiple teams.

You'll also bring:

• Strong people leadership and coaching experience.
• Experience supporting agile software delivery across multiple teams.
• Technical credibility across cloud services, CI/CD and modern engineering practices.
• Experience recruiting, developing and retaining engineering talent.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Experience within high-availability, regulated or large-scale environments such as travel, retail or payments would be beneficial, along with familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes and Mission-and-Squad style operating models.
