Job summary

HSBC is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Lead in the UK to modernise and scale SmartServe, a microservices suite powering customer outreach, information capture and authorisations. The role blends hands-on coding with architecture, design, and engineering leadership across a global team.

You will drive delivery cadence, remove blockers, and elevate engineering standards while collaborating with business and tech leaders to meet diverse client needs.

Qualifications

• Proven track record in software engineering, designing, developing and deploying backend applications.
• Strong capability in designing microservices as well as the broader microservice architecture.
• Demonstrated leadership in guiding teams to deliver production changes at high cadence.
• Hands-on delivery of RESTful APIs into production environments.

Responsibilities

• Be hands-on, delivering code to production and supporting the architecture and design of the system.
• Drive faster delivery across the wider team, leading by example with volume and reliability of changes.
• Engage with the business and engineering leadership to understand requirements and communicate them to the team.
• Bring ideas and solutions based on understanding wider requirements.
• Lead and drive the engineering culture across our teams.
• Collaborate with a global team with cross-regional coordination.
• Proactively remove impediments and communicate risks to program management.
• Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements.
