Job summary

IBM Hursley is seeking a pre-graduate Intern Software Engineer to develop software skills within the FlashSystem storage domain. You’ll design, develop, test, and deliver software in an Agile setting, mentored by experienced engineers.

The position is based at IBM Hursley with hybrid work options and a July 2027 start date. You will contribute to CI/CD, collaborate with stakeholders, and tackle customer-reported issues while learning new technologies and best practices in storage software

You will be joining the FlashSystem engineering team as a pre‑graduate Intern Software Engineer, where you will develop your software engineering and problem-solving skills while learning new technologies and working with mentors and teams within the Storage organisation.

Your role and responsibilities

This role is based in IBM Hursley and you must have permanent residency to work in the UK.

Start date is July 2027.

As a Software Developer: you will design, develop, test, and deliver offerings using leading‑edge and/or proven technologies. You will work in an Agile, collaborative environment to understand stakeholder requirements and contribute to the development of innovative software solutions.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

Develop Software Solutions: Design, code, and test component-level software solutions, ensuring they are unit tested and ready for integration into products.
Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work in an Agile environment to understand stakeholder requirements and deliver solutions that meet their needs.
Debug Customer Issues: Design, develop, and unit test code fixes for customer-reported problems.
Contribute to CI/CD Pipeline: Participate in the development of an automated CI/CD pipeline that takes code through various quality stages.
Deliver Offerings: Test and deliver offerings using leading‑edge and/or proven technologies.

Preferred technical and professional experience

Familiarity with Development Tools: Basic understanding of tools used for design, development, and assembly of components, such as those for creating functional and technical designs, models, code, and unit tests.
Awareness of Custom Information Systems: Curiosity about the design, development, and assembly of components to create custom information systems.
Exposure to IT Requirements: Familiarity with the process of translating IT requirements into design and development of components, with guidance from experienced team members.
