Job summary

IBM’s Ceph engineering team at Hursley is offering a graduate role in Winchester to develop and implement cutting-edge storage software. You will join a 6–8 engineer squad to design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality software with ownership and collaboration across teams.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with C/C++, Python, Git, Linux, and container technologies while learning from over 100 Storage developers worldwide.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; 2:1 degree preferred.
  • Willingness to travel to IBM and client sites, with in-office presence at least 3 days a week.
  • Experience with modern development practices and problem solving in software projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop code and solutions using enterprise‑level tools.
  • Collaborate with a squad of engineers to design, develop, test, and maintain software.
  • Use technologies such as C/C++, Python, Git, Linux, container techs.
  • Learn from a large team of Storage developers to become product experts.
  • Work onsite in Hursley at least three days a week.

You will be joining the Ceph engineering team, where you will develop your software engineering and problem‑solving skills while learning new technologies and working with mentors and teams within the Storage organisation. The team has commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce, where different thinking styles are valued for the strength and innovation they bring to teams.

Your role and responsibilities
  • Develop code and solutions using the latest enterprise‑level tools.
  • Collaborate with a squad of 6‑8 engineers to design, develop, test, and maintain high‑quality software for which you feel a strong sense of ownership.
  • Use technologies and industry‑standard tools such as C/C++, Python, Git, Linux, Container technologies
  • Learn from our team of 100+ Storage developers in Hursley, plus hundreds more worldwide, to become an expert in our product.
  • Work onsite in Hursley at least three days a week, and additionally as needed for team collaboration.

Passion for software engineering, which can be shown from experience in professional projects, experience from education projects or experience from projects completed in your personal time.

Ability to solve problems alone and as part of a team.

Effective communication skills to explain technical problems and solutions to other engineers.

We look for individuals with a passion for technology. You may have hands on experience, a certification, badge or relevant work experience.

  • Expected locations: Winchester
  • Degree minimum 2:1
  • Positions require flexibility on travel to IBM and client sites. IBMers are expected to work at least 3 days a week in the office.
Preferred technical and professional experience
  • Front-End Development Skills: Exposure to designing, developing, testing, and delivering front‑end components of software applications using leading‑edge and/or proven technologies.
  • DevOps Engineering Knowledge: Familiarity with DevOps engineering practices and tools, contributing to the development of automated CI/CD pipelines.
  • L3 Support Engineering: Exposure to L3 support engineering, debugging customer‑reported problems, and designing, developing, and unit testing code fixes.
