Job summary

PentenAmio is seeking a Graduate Software Engineer to join the Early Careers team in a 12-month Graduate Scheme commencing September 2027. You will gain experience across multiple projects, developing technical and collaborative skills in a security-focused environment.

You will design and implement software with C/C++/Rust/Python, work on embedded systems and cloud platforms, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams using Agile practices.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum 2:1 degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security or a related subject.
• Be a British citizen and eligible for UK NSV at SC level clearance.
• Awareness of software development principles and experience coding in at least one language.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement software using languages such as C/C++, Rust, Go, Python and web frameworks.
• Develop software across mobile apps, secure communications and embedded systems.
• Integrate software with system components, including FPGA/PLD devices and hardware.
• Contribute to cloud-based platforms and services, including microservices and Kubernetes.
• Gain experience across the full product development lifecycle from requirements to testing.
• Document software designs and decisions; track development activities.
• Investigate and evaluate new frameworks, libraries and tools.
• Work in multidisciplinary teams using Agile methods and effective troubleshooting.

Typical Activities
Working as part of our Early Careers team within Products & Engineering, the Graduate Software Engineer will join our 12-month Graduate Scheme starting in September 2027 gaining experience across a range of projects while developing their technical, professional and collaborative skills.
You will:

• Design, develop and implement software using languages and technologies such as C/C++, Rust, Go, Python and web frameworks.
• Develop software across a range of applications, including mobile apps, secure communications and embedded systems.
• Integrate software with other system components, including FPGA/PLD devices and hardware.
• Contribute to the development of cloud-based platforms and services, including microservices and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
• Gain experience across the full product development lifecycle, from requirements through to testing.
• Document software designs, implementation decisions and development activities in line with best practices.
• Investigate and evaluate emerging frameworks, libraries, build tools and technologies.
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to develop technical solutions using Agile methodologies.
• Contribute to technical solutions through effective troubleshooting, debugging and problem-solving.
• Get involved in STEM outreach activities, helping to create new initiatives and represent PentenAmio at events.

What we're looking for

• A minimum 2:1 degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security or a related subject.
• Awareness of software development principles and experience coding in at least one programming or scripting language.
• Good understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems.
• An understanding of the basic stages of the product development lifecycle.
• Enthusiasm for technology and a genuine desire to learn and develop new technical skills.
• Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies and techniques.
• A systematic and methodical approach to debugging and resolving technical issues.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot effectively.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Good time management, self-motivation and ownership of your deliverables.

Desirable

• Experience with embedded programming or operating systems, such as Linux on Raspberry Pi or Arduino.
• Experience with Apple or Android application development.
• Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
• Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker.
• Experience with real-time embedded microkernels or hypervisors.
