Job Title: Software Engineer (UAV/UAS)

Location: Bristol (Hybrid) or UK Remote (Willing to travel to Bristol monthly)

Are you an experienced Software Engineer with UAV/UAS expertise, looking for a role that allows you to take ownership of the software for a brand-new product?

We’re hiring for a global leader in autonomous systems and hybrid intelligence solutions for security and defence. Over the last 20 years, they have become a multinational organisation protecting lives, infrastructure, and assets worldwide.

As part of their autonomous systems team, you'll design and develop software for next-generation unmanned aerial systems (UAS), addressing security challenges in safety, defence, and beyond.

What You'll Do:

• Translate software requirements into functional designs.
• Develop system autonomy software using C++ or other languages.
• Test and review code to ensure quality.
• Identify and fix issues in code.
• Enhance software development processes for autonomous systems.
• Work in a fast-paced, agile environment, rapidly developing UAV technologies with a ‘fly, fail, learn’ approach.
• Collaborate with AI/ML experts on autonomous navigation, image processing, sensor fusion, and real-time decision-making.

What You’ll Bring:

• Experience with Agile, Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket (or similar).
• Proficiency in C++ and Python.
• Experience with autopilot firmware (PX4 preferred, or familiarity with Ardupilot).
• Knowledge of ROS2.
• Experience with Ground Control Software, open-source GCS (QGroundControl).
• Experience with simulation tools like Gazebo.
• Understanding of computer vision and machine learning (Desirable).
• Background in autonomous systems development, integration, and testing (Desirable).
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate across experience levels.
• Organized, delivery-focused, able to meet deadlines.
