Job summary

Morson Group is seeking a Software Engineer (SI) for a 6-month contract in New Malden with on-site work and 37 hours per week. The role involves developing and maintaining software used across Royal Navy fleet platforms and requires hands-on experience in C#.

You will implement fixes, perform analyses, develop designs, and contribute to testing and integration on local rigs, working with cross‑functional teams in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• A software engineering background and experience developing and testing in C#.
• Experience in large, multi-project environments with cross-functional and distributed teams.
• Strong analytical and debugging skills to investigate complex issues.
• Experience documenting low-level designs and rationale for solutions.
• Experience with Agile development processes.
• Experience with WPF, PowerShell, and unit/regression/system testing.
• Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
• Interpersonal skills in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with management and peers.
• Flexibility to changing tasks and priorities.
• Understanding of the engineering lifecycle.

Responsibilities

The opportunity

We are looking for a Software Engineer to develop and maintain a range of products that shape and bring together software used across Royal Navy fleet platforms. You will gain hands‑on experience, support internal and customer testing, and help evaluate emerging technologies for potential introduction into a competitive product portfolio.

What you’ll be doing

• Implement fixes and functional updates to software products in line with project priorities.
• Carry out complex technical analyses and investigations, evaluate technical options, and prepare reports with recommendations to resolve problems and improve engineering capability.
• Prepare and develop designs in line with specifications, quality requirements and technical standards, including design appraisals in assigned areas.
• Investigate operational problems and developments, then create practical solutions independently or as part of a project team.
• Participate in the integration and testing of software products on local target rigs.
• Undertake the design, development, integration and testing of assigned software products, following relevant processes and quality requirements under the direction of Software Engineering team leaders.

What you’ll bring

• A good understanding of the engineering lifecycle.

Desirable experience

• Experience in defence engineering or a related industry.
• Knowledge of the naval domain.
