The opportunity:

At Leonardo, we are looking for experienced Software Engineers to develop software for the M-Scan and Mark 0 radar systems deployed on the Eurofighter Typhoon Fighter Jet.

Typhoon remains the primary front-line defence aircraft for the UK, Germany, Italy & Spain. Due to significant customer demand for future technology enhancements, Leonardo seeks Software Engineers to contribute to the Typhoon programme.

This role offers the chance to learn the programming language Ada, widely used in Defence and Aerospace industries. We support candidates in their learning and development.

We are hiring for our established software community in Edinburgh and our new Newcastle office, which has a start-up atmosphere.

What you’ll do as a Software Engineer:

• Create high-quality, robust code; document work products; manage configurations; and report progress.
• Deliver technical reports, documents, and presentations to stakeholders.
• Follow project plans and identify key elements.
• Report progress clearly to team leads and management.
• Collaborate with Software & Systems teams and resolve integration issues on complex systems.

What we need from you:

• Willingness to learn Ada.
• Senior industry experience and ability to work autonomously.
• Experience with the full Software Development Lifecycle.
• Desire to work within a small, multidisciplinary team.

Additional skills that will help:

• Experience with agile methods like Scrum and tools such as Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Gitlab.
• Experience with Ada or Java.
• Experience developing software for embedded systems.
• Background in regulated industries like Defence, Aerospace, Automotive, Medical.
