Job summary

Hackajob Ltd, partnered with Envitia, is hiring for a senior secure software engineer to design, build and maintain API-driven, distributed systems for secure government environments. You will work across Java/JavaScript/TypeScript/Python/C++, with AWS cloud-native deployments and a strong emphasis on DevSecOps and secure coding practices.

Qualifications

• Experience inside UK Security & Intelligence, defence or other secure government environments.
• Proficiency in one or more languages such as Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or C++, with API and full-stack experience.
• Experience designing distributed systems including microservices, event-driven architectures and high-performance backend services.
• Cloud-native development experience, particularly AWS, containerised applications and modern infrastructure concepts.
• Understanding of DevSecOps practices including CI/CD, automated testing and secure development standards.
• Must hold a current high level security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain secure software applications, services, APIs and integrations within classified environments.
• Build scalable, distributed systems supporting data, analytics and mission-critical workloads.
• Develop full-stack features and backend services aligned to performance, reliability and security requirements.
• Contribute to software design, architecture decisions and technical documentation.
• Apply modern software engineering practices including clean coding, testing and code reviews.
• Collaborate within Agile teams, contributing to sprint planning, refinement, reviews and retrospectives.
• Support DevSecOps delivery by working with CI/CD pipelines, containerised deployments and cloud-native services.
• Integrate applications with cloud platforms, data services and streaming technologies.
• Implement monitoring, logging and observability to support live service operation.
• Support secure deployment and operation of applications across development, test and production environments.
• Develop software services using languages such as Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or C++.
• Build full-stack applications using React, Node.js, Spring Boot, Next.js or similar.

• We are looking for experience working within the UK Security & Intelligence, defence or other secure government environments.
• We require strong knowledge of modern software engineering practices, frameworks and secure application development across HMG-style technology estates.
• We are looking for proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or C++, with experience building APIs and full-stack applications.
