Job summary

Checkout.com is building the future of fintech in the UK and beyond. We are seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop and deliver scalable backend and full-stack systems that power thousands of merchants world-wide.

You will work with product management and engineering teams across Checkout's portfolio to ship reliable, high-performance software. You will lead initiative ownership, write clean code, and help evolve architecture while mentoring junior teammates in a fast-paced, collaborative

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Proficiency in C# .NET, Java, or Go, with strong backend/full stack principles
• Great communication skills interacting with diverse stakeholders
• Experience in Agile environments and delivering high-quality code under tight deadlines
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team
• AI proficiency or curiosity to leverage latest tech for productivity
• Payments/financial knowledge a plus, not required

We're looking for Software engineers who bring fresh ideas, have a curious nature and are passionate about working in an Engineering environment which focuses on building products to achieve the company's strategic goals. You'll get to work with teams from across Checkout.com's portfolio of products and services who all have a real customer first philosophy.

As a Software engineer, you will lead and drive specific projects critical to Checkout's needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display exceptional leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. With your technical expertise you will lead project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.

What are we looking for:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Proficiency in C# .NET, Java, or Go, with a strong understanding of software development principles in either a backend or full stack environment.
• Great communication skills and ability to interact effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
• Experience working in agile environments and delivering high-quality code within tight deadlines
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Someone who is AI proficient or AI curious, you will be hungry to embrace what the latest technology has to offer to enhance yours and your teams productivity
• Payments or financial knowledge is a plus, but not a necessity

How you'll make an impact:

• Be part of, and collaborate with, cross-functional teams including product management, across a large engineering community.
• Define and design loosely coupled, scalable systems in a wider microservices using industry best practices.
• Stay up-to-date, use, and spread knowledge of the latest technologies used by Checkout.
• Write clean, maintainable, extendable and testable code on some of Checkout’s most impactful systems.
• Build, own and operate your systems to the highest levels of resilience and service.
• Mentor junior team members and assist in their technical development
