Job description

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to support, deliver, and maintain our WordPress CMS platform for a major News-based Direct-to-Consumer service. The ideal candidate will help create a performant, accessible, and operationally excellent system that provides a great user experience.

Responsibilities:

1. Design and implement new features and functionalities for WordPress-based websites and applications.
2. Write and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code.
3. Extend WordPress functionality through plugins, custom post types, and custom fields.
4. Integrate WordPress sites with third-party systems such as CRMs, analytics, and marketing automation tools.
5. Participate in peer code reviews and ensure adherence to quality standards.
6. Troubleshoot and resolve issues throughout the product lifecycle.
7. Engage in agile planning and delivery processes.
8. Collaborate with project, product, and technical leads to design software and create specifications and tasks.
9. Coordinate with third-party providers, offering guidance, support, and documentation.

Requirements:

• Experience creating custom blocks, developing WordPress plugins, and integrating REST APIs with third-party systems.
• Knowledge of optimization techniques for high-performance, scalable, resilient, and secure websites, including monitoring and testing.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience in test-driven development and translating product requirements into technical solutions.
• A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Familiarity with WordPress best practices and APIs.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Support and collaborate effectively with team members.
• Experience working on global news-related projects is a plus.
