Job description

Optiver is looking for a Software Engineer to join our London Autotrading development team. This team works both on expanding the functionality of our autotrading systems to meet the unique needs of the desks in London, as well as taking a lead on optimizing and improving the scalability of our core trading platform. Our systems are built to add to the stability of the market, not detract from it; therefore, they must operate at peak efficiency in the most extreme market conditions across every product we want to trade. We’re looking for a hands-on engineer with deep technical knowledge to help us in this mission.

What you’ll do:

  1. Work closely with the trading team to understand their needs, and build out new functionality and strategies in our autotrading systems;
  2. Develop performance critical code that must handle huge amounts of data in an environment where nanoseconds matter;
  3. Build mission critical software to the highest level of quality with risk management at the forefront of thinking;
  4. Tackle architectural limitations in our trading system, allowing us to scale to an ever increasing number of instruments in markets that are busier than ever.

What you’ll get:

You’ll join a culture of collaboration and excellence, where you’ll be surrounded by curious thinkers and creative problem solvers. Motivated by a passion for continuous improvement, you’ll thrive in a supportive, high-performing environment alongside talented colleagues, working collectively to tackle the toughest problems in the financial markets.

In addition, you’ll receive:

  1. A performance-based bonus structure unmatched anywhere in the industry. We combine our profits across desks, teams and offices into a global profit pool.
  2. The opportunity to work alongside best-in-class professionals from over 40 different countries.
  3. 25 paid vacation days and fully paid first-class commuting expenses.
  4. Training opportunities and discounts on health insurance.
  5. Extensive office perks, including breakfast and lunch, world-class barista coffee, sports and leisure activities, Friday afternoon drinks, and weekly in-house chair massages.
  6. Competitive relocation packages and visa sponsorship where necessary for expats.

Who you are:

  1. Strong engineering instincts and a deep understanding of computer science fundamentals;
  2. Experience writing software in C/C++ and Python, with a proven ability to deliver scalable, reliable, high-quality code;
  3. Ability to distil complex problems in to simple and pragmatic solutions;
  4. Able to operate autonomously as well as collaborate with Traders, Researchers, other technical teams and business operations counterparts to deliver on complex business initiatives;
  5. Experience with performance critical distributed systems;
  6. Experience building high frequency trading systems would be beneficial but not required.

Who we are:

At Optiver, our mission is to continuously improve the market. By providing liquidity and accurate pricing in various financial instruments, to multiple exchanges across the world, we participate in the safeguarding of healthy and efficient markets.
