The Role

As part of our ambitious growth plans, Occuity is seeking a Software Engineer to drive the development of a new generation of transformational diagnostic medical devices. These devices use novel optical methods to identify signatures of chronic and systemic diseases Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes).

The applicant will work with scientists and engineers to design and develop the software to control devices and instruments, run experiments and control clinical devices. The role will involve designing and implementing software control of prototype medical instruments and components cameras, detectors), and developing suitable user interfaces. This includes all stages of development from the definition of the software requirements and specifications to the choice of the technologies, software architecture and programming languages. You will be working as part of a diverse team of engineers and scientists.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to take full ownership of the software architecture and development at an early stage and drive the project forward. In addition, this role offers future opportunities to work on the development of novel data processing methodologies, neural networks and AI applied to medical data.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Writing and maintaining code specifications and requirements
  • Designing whole code platforms and architecture
  • Ensuring code integrity and documentation
  • Ensuring continuous development through automated testing
  • Developing and enforcing coding guidelines
  • Managing software release and versioning
  • Implementing control protocols for instruments and devices cameras)
  • Developing user-friendly control and display interfaces
  • Implementing data analysis and data processing protocols
  • Documentation of code

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • 1st or Honors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar
  • 2-4 years of experience of software development
  • Low level programming language (such as C, C++) for embedded software and real-time hardware interface
  • High level programming language (such as C#, Python) for control software and user interface
  • Version control using Git, SVN or similar
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience of developing medical software
  • Knowledge of medical device directives, standards and regulatory frameworks MDD, EN60601, ISO13845)
  • Microprocessor programming
  • FPGA programming
  • High performance data management and storage HD5)
  • Experience controlling optical and photonics equipment cameras, lasers)
  • Experience with Micro-manager
