Job description

Job Description
Software Engineer - Glasgow

We’re looking for a full-stack developer to join Phlo as a Software Engineer. You’ll work across our products and platforms as part of a close-knit team of developers, designers, testers and product owners, with the autonomy and influence to help shape the future of Phlo.

The Job

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be involved in:

  • Working collaboratively with other engineers, designers, product owners and the wider business to deliver our vision of the pharmacy of the future.
  • Working in small, collaborative teams where AI‑assisted development is part of our day-to-day approach. You’ll use AI tools thoughtfully to spend less time on routine work and more time solving the problems that matter, while maintaining strong engineering judgement.
  • Building our products. You’ll own and deliver substantial product changes alongside your team, working confidently across multiple areas of the codebase and improving the code as you go.
  • Breaking work down and taking it through to delivery. You’ll turn complex tasks into clear objectives, work through them methodically and raise pull requests early and often.
  • Taking the lead on smaller projects, with the support of your team and manager and growing into larger ones.
  • Designing the technical approach for new features, making sure the solution is maintainable and fit for purpose.
  • Reviewing and testing the work of other engineers, thoroughly testing changes and guiding authors towards better solutions.
  • Researching technologies and approaches for upcoming work, then documenting your findings and recommendations clearly for the team.
  • Supporting our production systems, working issues through to resolution and documenting what you learn to help others resolve similar issues more efficiently.
  • Helping the team improve. You’ll advocate for better ways of working and take the initiative on the improvements you spot, proactively driving them forward.
  • Contributing to engineering initiatives that improve how we build software across the team.
  • Sharing what you know by acting as a buddy to new joiners and helping others build their knowledge and confidence.
  • Working with technologies including TypeScript, React, Koa, Next.js, Vite, Playwright, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, GCP and Azure DevOps.
The Person

Ideally, we’re looking for someone with:

  • Experience of full-stack web development. You’ll be as comfortable using an SQL database as you are building APIs and responsive web applications.
  • Experience building, deploying and supporting software in production. You’ll be comfortable taking an idea from concept through to a reliable product used by Phlo’s patients and healthcare partners.
  • A good understanding of modern web and cloud technologies and the judgement to choose practical solutions.
  • Some experience of planning your own work and breaking larger problems into manageable tasks.
  • A solution‑focused mindset. You’ll work past problems and help the team and wider business reach their goals.
  • The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical colleagues.
  • The ability to make change happen. You’ll know how to identify the problems worth fixing and bring people along with you to get them solved.
  • An open and collaborative attitude. You’ll enjoy helping others and making sure the team as a whole succeeds.
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies, including the thoughtful use of AI‑assisted development, while maintaining strong engineering judgement and accountability.
The Perks

And in joining Phlo, you’ll receive a competitive package designed to support your wellbeing, development and success, including:

  • Salary between £48,000 - £58,000 depending on experience
  • Opportunity to join a high growth health tech business
