Job summary

Tesco Insurance and Money Services is seeking a Software Engineer to join the engineering team responsible for motor insurance products and services. You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle in an Agile environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.

Office Attendance – Our hybrid working model gives you the best of both worlds - flexibility to work from home and valuable face-to-face time with colleagues. This role typically requires 2 days per week onsite.

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join Tesco Insurance and Money Services at an exciting stage of growth and transformation. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a talented and collaborative engineering team responsible for developing and supporting Tesco’s motor insurance products and services.

As a Software Engineer, you will be involved throughout the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and solution design through to development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support. Working within an Agile environment, you will collaborate closely with fellow engineers, product and delivery stakeholders, business analysts, architects, and other cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.

What you’ll be doing

You will play a role in designing, building, testing, and maintaining scalable and resilient applications that provide value to our customers and support key business objectives. You will be encouraged to contribute ideas, challenge existing approaches, and help drive continuous improvement across both technology and ways of working. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your technical expertise while working on meaningful products that impact millions of customers.

What we’re looking for (minimum criteria)

• Proven experience developing and maintaining applications using Node.js / TypeScript, with a strong understanding of modern software engineering principles and best practices.
• Experience delivering features throughout the full software development lifecycle, including development, testing, deployment and ongoing support within an Agile delivery environment.
• An understanding of automated testing, with hands‑on experience writing and maintaining unit tests using Jest to ensure code quality, reliability and maintainability.
• Experience working collaboratively within cross‑functional teams, including engineers, product owners, business analysts and architects, with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively and contribute to continuous improvement initiative

And if you have any of these, even better

• Experience building and operating applications within AWS cloud, with a good understanding of cloud‑native architectures and operational best practices.
• Some experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, monitoring and observability and performance optimisation.
