Job summary

Software Engineer (Insider Risk Team)

SALARY: £42,744 - £53,000

LOCATION(S): Edinburgh or Leeds

HOURS: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Within our Chief Security Office, the Insider Risk Management team plays a critical role in helping keep our customers, colleagues and assets safe! We're a collaborative team of insider risk analysts and software engineers who work together to improve how we identify, investigate and manage insider risk. We combine software engineering, analytics and behavioural insights to deliver the Group's Insider Strategy, support data‑led decision making and contribute to industry‑wide conversations on insider risk!

We're looking for a Software Engineer with strong front‑end development experience to help us develop innovative tools and capabilities. This is primarily a front‑end engineering role, with approximately 60% of your time focused on designing, building and enhancing user‑facing applications. The remaining time will be spent supporting back‑end services, APIs and integrations that underpin these solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Build and enhance user‑facing applications that improve analyst workflows, case management and risk investigations.
  • Design and develop detection capabilities and software solutions that help identify potential insider risk events.
  • Explore emerging technologies and third‑party solutions, bringing new ideas and challenging existing approaches.
  • Improve processes through automation, analytics and modern engineering practices.
  • Collaborate across the team to share knowledge, develop engineering capability and contribute to innovation initiatives, hackathons and technical communities.

What you’ll need
  • Software Engineering: Developing high‑quality, reusable and maintainable software solutions using modern programming languages, frameworks and engineering practices.

  • Problem Solving: Analysing complex challenges, identifying root causes and creating practical, scalable solutions.

  • Experience developing web applications using technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, React or Java.
  • Experience integrating APIs into modern, data‑driven applications.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS or Azure.
  • Interest in data analysis and using data to identify patterns, anomalies and opportunities.
Additional skills
  • Ethical and responsible use of AI and machine learning technologies.
  • Infrastructure as Code practices.
  • Git source code management.
  • Complex SQL query development.
  • Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Agile delivery approaches including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
