Job summary

Ocho is seeking a backend engineer to help build and scale cloud security solutions from Belfast. The company is in growth mode, with a recent £250m investment and a valuation of over $3bn, and has an established Belfast engineering hub with 30+ engineers.

You will own the full development lifecycle, make architectural decisions for high-scale security platforms, and collaborate with Frontend, DevOps, and Security teams to deliver reliable backend systems.

Qualifications

• 3+ years backend development experience in a high-performing language.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Exposure to data-intensive systems (databases, messaging, event-driven systems).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices.
• Experience working within microservices architectures.

Responsibilities

• Own the full development lifecycle – from design to deployment and monitoring.
• Make technical and architectural decisions for high-scale cloud security platforms.
• Improve the performance, scalability, and reliability of backend systems.
• Conduct design and code reviews to maintain engineering standards.

The Role

As a Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for:

• Owning the full development lifecycle – from design and development through to deployment and monitoring
• Making technical and architectural decisions that impact high-scale cloud security platforms
• Improving the performance, scalability, and reliability of backend systems
• Conducting design and code reviews to maintain high engineering standards

About You

You're a great fit if you have:

• 3+ years of backend development experience in any high-performing language
• Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices
• Experience working within microservices architectures

Bonus Skills (Desirable, not essential)

• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Elasticsearch, Redis, RabbitMQ, or TimescaleDB
• Understanding of cloud security principles and best practices
