Job description

Software Development Manager III, Hub Tech

Are you interested in making a significant impact within the next year? Do you want to build new products from scratch? Do you thrive in a startup culture?

If yes, then this might be the right opportunity for you.

We are the Lockers team! We solve the problem of package delivery to customers. Many Amazon customers face hassles coordinating delivery times with carriers and are unable to receive their packages. We address this issue by enabling customers to receive their packages (and process returns) whenever and wherever they want. We make package delivery asynchronous, similar to how messaging solutions like AWS SQS or JMS are critical to tech architecture. This is an important problem with a significant impact.

We have been operating for the last 8 years, with a network of 10,000 lockers across 12+ countries, delivering millions of packages each month. Despite our growth, we still consider ourselves a startup because of our operational style and scaling approach. We have key stakeholders and dependencies under a single leadership, make quick decisions, and move fast. In the last 3 years, we launched two successful new products. This year, we started developing a new product to transform lockers: lockers that operate without internet or power for years, installed at public places, discoverable in real-time. This initiative aims to scale our operations tenfold in the next three years.

In this role, you will gain both breadth and depth of experience. Our organization will build the Amazon pickup platform on Retail, the largest pickup platform in the world's biggest retail web and mobile portals, and enhance package delivery capabilities in Rabbit, one of the largest carrier apps. You will also work on maintenance features in our Administrator App, firmware in cutting-edge technologies like RUST, and scalable backend services using native AWS technologies—all largely built from scratch. You will collaborate with partners from vendors in China to Lab126 in SFO, witnessing these initiatives come together and make a major impact within a year.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee the entire systems development lifecycle of key product sub-systems.
  2. Manage project plans and ensure timely delivery.
  3. Lead the engineering team in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  4. Manage resources, staffing, mentoring, and maintain a high-performing engineering team.
  5. Collaborate with engineers to architect and develop optimal technical designs.
  6. Report on development status, quality, operations, and system performance to management.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns across the full software/hardware/network lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, certification, and live-site operations.
  • Experience working with product or program management teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience communicating with users, technical teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements, define features, technical designs, and product strategy.
  • Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and managing software engineering teams to improve their skills and effectiveness.
