Tesco UK is seeking a platform engineer to join the Engineering Effectiveness organization. The role involves leadership in developing the Tesco Developer Platform, enhancing standards, and utilizing cloud-native technologies to improve service delivery. Candidates should possess strong Java and cloud platform experience, alongside a commitment to quality and operational excellence.
At Tesco, we believe in the power of spending more time together, face to face, than apart. During your working week, you can expect to spend 60% of your time in one of our office locations or local sites and the rest remotely. We recognize that life looks different for everyone, and we welcome conversations about flexible working arrangements. Talk to us during your application process about how we can support you.
The Engineering Effectiveness organization within Technology aims to make the work of over 2,000 Tesco software engineers as frictionless and delightful as possible. We enable quick access to information and context, provide valuable platforms and abstractions, and reduce toil. Our goal is to make the standard development, build, and deployment processes the easiest ways to work.
Our team comprises product managers, software and systems engineers, and other experts from the UK, Hungary, and India. We are customer-focused and data-led, prioritizing solving the most valuable problems. We do not build unnecessary solutions and hold ourselves to high engineering standards, taking pride in our work.
The Tesco Developer Platform (TDP) is a newly envisioned platform that allows developers to build, deploy, and operate software in a self-service manner. It aims to provide a golden path with automated build and deployment processes, enhancing quality, security, and standardization. The platform will include various tools and technologies that seamlessly integrate to facilitate a smooth pipeline to production, reducing cognitive load, toil, and manual work, and enabling faster software delivery with better security and observability. The TDP team is responsible for building, running, and maintaining this platform.
This role offers an opportunity to enhance your platform engineering skills, gain hands-on experience in building a platform from the ground up, develop standards, and work with cloud-native technologies. You will also have the chance to participate in the wider Engineering Effectiveness community, learn, and share knowledge.
