Job description

Location - London with hybrid working available

At LCP we love what we do, and it shows. We help our clients make good decisions based on insightful analysis, industry expertise, and game-changing technology. Working across a wide range of sectors, including pensions and benefits, investments, insurance, energy, health, sports, and data analytics, we help our clients navigate complexity in order to take the action that matters. Technology is increasingly central to how LCP operates, both through the products we provide to clients and the digital services, platforms, and applications that support our people. Digital Services brings together the capabilities required to develop, operate and continually improve these products and services in a secure, scalable and user-focused way.

We have an exciting opportunity for a front-end focused Software Development Engineer to support the growth of a recently established central development team within the Digital Services department. As the third member of the team, you will bring your experience and natural curiosity for tech to create intuitive, high-quality web experiences for colleagues and clients, contributing both to solutions originating within the team and to new innovations that transition into the team for ongoing development and maintenance

You will bring experience of building polished, reliable and client-focused web applications using Vue and TypeScript, together with sound UX judgement and a quality-first approach to automated testing. While frontend development will be your core focus, this is a full-stack role in a lean, AI-enabled team: you will also contribute to Node.js and .NET services and integrations, including AI-powered capabilities. Working under the guidance of the Lead, you will be proactive, adaptable and keen to learn new technologies across multiple products/services owned by the team.

What will you be doing?
  • Design and develop responsive, accessible and intuitive user interfaces for new features, bug fixes and ongoing product improvements, primarily using Vue and TypeScript
  • Contribute to full-stack delivery by integrating frontend applications with APIs and services, and by developing and maintaining Node.js and .NET backend components where needed
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to build clear, practical user journeys and interface designs, using sound UX judgement
  • Build and maintain automated tests across unit, component, integration and end-to-end levels, helping the team deliver changes with confidence
  • Actively contribute to all phases of the SDLC with a DevOps, cross-functional mindset
  • Investigate and troubleshoot product issues to identify root causes and deliver suitable fixes, with particular attention to user impact
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders and wider Digital Services teams, including Web team, Platforms and QA, to deliver secure solutions aligned with engineering best practices
  • Maintain clear, appropriate technical documentation and share knowledge within the team to reduce knowledge silos and support sustainable delivery
What skills, qualities and experience are we looking for?
  • 3+ years' professional experience developing modern web applications, with a strong focus on frontend engineering
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Vue 3, including component-based development, state management and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Demonstrable UX judgement: able to create clear, usable, responsive and accessible interfaces, and to turn requirements into effective user journeys
  • Knowledge of frontend performance optimisation, web accessibility standards and design systems
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing, including unit and component tests plus integration and/or end-to-end testing
  • Experience with Node.js for API development, services or integrations, and confidence working across frontend and backend boundaries
  • 1+ years’ experience with C#/.NET
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and pragmatically in an iterative environment
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with excellent communication skills and a genuine interest in learning, sharing knowledge and improving how we build software
Nice to have:
  • Experience with Azure cloud services, IaC (Terraform) and/or YAML pipelines
  • Knowledge of building Generative AI / LLM powered solutions
  • Experience with canvas / webgl
