Job summary

Hackajob Ltd is seeking an experienced technical lead for senior software development engagements in the UK. This role involves driving backlog elaboration, setting testing strategies, and acting as a technical expert or team lead across client projects.

You will collaborate with clients and stakeholders in a consultancy environment, applying TDD and pairing to deliver robust, secure solutions while continually improving ways of working and the overall client experience.

Qualifications

• Active SC clearance or eligible to obtain it.
• UK citizenship and five years continuous UK residence; no single absence >28 days.
• Experience delivering digital services for the UK government.
• Familiarity with the GDS toolkit is beneficial.
• Expertise in Java and/or Scala; other languages (JavaScript, TypeScript, Kotlin, Python, Ruby) valued.
• Experience in a technical leadership role.
• Deep understanding of programming paradigms, code design, testing, accessibility, performance and security.
• Experience with agile methodology.
• Willingness to commute to offices and client sites; travel essential.

Salary: £61,000 - 101,000 per year

Requirements:

• We require applicants to either currently hold active Security Check (SC) Clearance or be eligible to obtain it.
• Eligibility typically requires UK citizenship and continuous residence in the UK for the past five years, with no single absence exceeding 28 consecutive days.

We are partnering directly with Opencast Software to hire contractors in software development at senior level or technical lead level. We care more about engineering craft, clean design and thoughtful problem-solving than speed of ticket delivery. Our consultants work in complex environments, pairing often and applying TDD, emerging design and refactoring to leave code better than they found it. We are collaborative, tech agnostic and focused on simple, robust solutions. The role is varied and technical, with regular on-site attendance across our HQ, hub offices, client sites and home. The salary is £450 - £600 per day inside IR35. Interviews are conducted via Microsoft Teams, and we welcome candidates from all identities, attributes, ways of thinking and backgrounds.
