Job summary

Airbus S.A.S. in the United Kingdom is offering a software development internship within the Validation & Operations Solutions team.

You'll explore full-stack development across websites, applications, servers and databases in an Agile setting, pairing with experienced developers. The role requires you to be an undergraduate for the entire placement, studying Computer Science or Software Engineering, and to demonstrate OO principles, knowledge of C# or Java, and an interest in programming.

About the role

Hosted within the Engineering organization, the Validation & Operations Solutions department delivers tools for satellite projects from Earth Navigation & Science missions as well as cutting edge Telecommunications Payloads. We design, build and deploy a range of software solutions to enhance our stakeholder's data and digitalize their working environment. For this internship we have a chance to work on software for our latest Telecom Satellite design OneSat, as well as larger complex Eurostar NEOs.

What you will be doing

Within this Internship, we'll provide training and the latest tools for you to experience the full-stack of software development in an Agile environment. Those theories you've learnt in University shall come to life in real world requirements. You'll have opportunities to work on websites, applications, servers, databases as well as put into practice your communication skills, design patterns and your own stamp onto our products. During this internship, the activities you may undertake will include:

  • Given documentation to learn and understand the code base which you will be working on;
  • Designing, developing, documenting and testing code which you have written;
  • Involvement within a multi-developer agile team;
  • Researching and utilizing cutting‑edge technologies;
  • Pair programming with an experienced developer;
  • Experiencing the full‑stack of software development opportunities as a valued team member

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore, it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

Candidate skills and requirements

A successful candidate shall see themselves working as part of a team, collaborating and communicating with stakeholders and multi‑disciplined individuals within the Space industry to help create and maintain websites, applications and databases in accordance with Agile methodology. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Studying towards a degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering;
  • An understanding of Object Oriented Principles;
  • A solid foundation in C# or Java;
  • Knowledge of software architecture and design patterns;
  • An interest in programming and technology;
  • Good problem solving skills.

Salary: £24,500 37 hours per week // Flexible working hours // Hybrid working options available depending on the role // Half day Fridays!
