Job summary

AIRBUS Defence and Space Limited is offering an undergraduate internship in Stevenage to work on digital hardware, firmware and software for next-generation satellite payloads. You will learn from experts while contributing to real design and testing activities in a multidisciplinary team.

Applicants should be undergraduates with a degree focus in Software Engineering or related fields and should demonstrate enthusiasm for digital electronics, problem-solving and collaboration across engineering

Qualifications

  • Studying towards a degree in Software Engineering or related discipline such as Physics, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics
  • Proficiency in C, Python or similar programming languages
  • Enthusiasm for digital electronic technologies
  • Initiative to find creative solutions to complex technical problems
  • Desire to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary engineering team
  • Quick learner, capable of absorbing a wide range of skills and expertise
  • It would be desirable to have examples of group or investigative projects experience.

Responsibilities

  • Digital hardware, firmware and software components on board and on the ground must work together to meet customer needs.
  • Develop and apply complex software to simulate, control and test new product designs.
  • Typical activities include DSP algorithm design, simulation, control software development and validation.
  • Laboratory testing of new processor designs.

About us

We are seeking keen intellects to join our multi-disciplinary team in developing a new generation of digital satellite payloads. You will be immersed in a flight programme with access to experts in all disciplines needed to design complex global communication systems. Excellent team-working, innovative and analytical skills will be put to use to explore the technological and performance boundaries in an environment unlike anywhere on Earth. The Processor Systems team are world-leaders in digital signal processors for modern communications satellites. Our products fly in a range of missions including telecommunications satellites, navigation constellations and space observatories beyond Earth orbit. We work with European colleagues and suppliers around the world, leveraging the most advanced technologies to deliver the best performance for our customers.

What you will be doing

You will be working to ensure that a combination of digital hardware, firmware and software components on board and on the ground work correctly together to meet all of our customers’ needs. This will involve the development and application of complex software to simulate, control and test our new product designs. Typical activities include:

  • Digital signal processing algorithm design, simulation and analysis;
  • Control software development and validation;
  • Digital Hardware design and analysis;
  • Laboratory testing of new processor designs.
Requirements

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

You will also need to meet the following qualifications:

Security Clearance

You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
