Job summary

City + Capital is representing an established UK business in Hertfordshire, seeking a Software Developer to join the in-house technology team. The role spans PHP/Laravel back-end and Vue front-end work, delivering new features, dashboards and integrations while improving existing systems.

You will operate across live internal and customer-facing applications, gaining broad exposure to back-end and front-end development in a collaborative, office-based setting.

City + Capital are currently representing an established and fast-growing UK business that is looking to appoint a Software Developer to its in-house technology team.

The successful candidate will work across live internal and customer-facing systems, gaining broad exposure to both back-end and front-end development.

Technology plays an important role for our client in many aspects.

Internally, it drives the day-to-day operation, allowing different teams to be as efficient and effective as possible in their work. Externally their tech drives client activity and outcomes, using portals and other tools.

Continued investment into its technology capability has created an opportunity for an additional developer to join the business. You will become part of an industry respected and collaborative in-house team responsible for maintaining and improving established systems alongside delivering new functionality.

The size and structure of the team means developers gain genuine exposure to the wider business and can see the practical impact of the technology they build.

Importantly, there is also scope for future progression in this role too.

Role Overview

As Software Developer you will help design, build, maintain and improve a range of business-critical applications and systems.

Working across a PHP/Laravel back end and Vue front end, you will contribute towards new functionality, internal tools, customer-facing applications, reporting capabilities, automation and third-party integrations.

Rather than focusing exclusively on either front-end or back-end development, you will have the opportunity to build broader full-stack experience and contribute across different stages of the development lifecycle.

You will work alongside experienced technology professionals and communicate directly with colleagues across the business to understand requirements and develop practical technical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve features across established applications and systems
• Support development across both front-end and back-end environments
• Develop dashboards, reporting tools, charts and tables
• Support document generation and automated processes
• Work with third-party REST APIs and webhooks
• Assist with the development and maintenance of external integrations
• Test changes carefully and contribute towards improving automated testing
• Work with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and solve problems
• Help maintain and progressively improve an established codebase
• Support the ongoing development and reliability of live systems

Candidate Requirements

The ideal individual will be technically capable, inquisitive and keen to continue developing within a collaborative in-house environment. You should enjoy solving problems, taking ownership of your work and communicating with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

The ideal candidate is likely to be experienced in:

• Commercial experience using PHP and Laravel desired
• Practical experience with Vue, ideally Vue 3 desired
• Working knowledge of MySQL and database queries desired
• Experience consuming or integrating REST APIs and webhooks desired
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development practices desired
• An understanding of both front-end and back-end development desired
• A careful approach when working with live and sensitive data
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working within a small technology team

Experience with technologies such as AWS, Redis, Tailwind CSS, Vite, automated testing or data visualisation tools would be advantageous but is not essential.

On Offer

Our client is ideally looking to pay up to £40k as a basic salary, though higher offers could be considered based on experience & technical capability.
