Job Description:

The opportunity:

At Leonardo, we are looking for experienced Software Design Engineers to develop and maintain the software design for the Radar system currently deployed on the Eurofighter Typhoon Fighter Jet.

Typhoon remains the primary front line defence aircraft for the UK, Germany, Italy & Spain. As a result of significant customer demand for future technology enhancements, Leonardo is looking for Software Design Engineers to help us continue our invaluable contribution to the Typhoon programme.

We seek candidates with strong knowledge of modern software design tools who can take a pre-existing software product/design and generate a maintainable software design for ongoing radar development programs.

Join our software community in our new Newcastle office that offers a startup-like environment.

Responsibilities:

• Investigate and assess available Structured Analysis & Structured Design (SASD) toolsets, and identify suitable software design tools for Leonardo UK (Edinburgh).
• Reverse engineer current software baseline to create detailed design documents/models for ongoing development.
• Produce reports, documentation, and technical presentations for stakeholders.
• Follow project plans and identify key milestones.
• Report progress clearly and concisely to management.
• Collaborate closely with the software development team.

Qualifications:

• Willingness to adopt new software design tools.
• Industry experience and ability to work autonomously at a senior level.
• Experience with the full Software Development Lifecycle.
• Desire to work within a small, multidisciplinary project team.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience with CADRE Teamwork.
• Developing software designs for embedded systems.
• Experience in regulated industries like Defence, Aerospace, Automotive, Medical, Oil & Gas, or Financial sectors.
• Using agile methods such as Scrum with tools like Jira/Confluence.
