Job summary

Avanti Recruitment is partnering with a specialist engineering business to recruit a Software & Controls Engineer. You will own controls design, software development, and testing through to commissioning at customer sites, with exposure to PLCs, robotics, and advanced automation.

The role offers a base salary up to £50,000 plus travel and car allowances, a package up to around £60,000, and flexible/hybrid working with UK and international travel.

Qualifications

• Siemens PLC programming experience required.
• Experience with TIA Portal and Rockwell systems encouraged.
• Experience with HMI development and electrical schematics.
• Drives, servo systems and machine commissioning knowledge.
• Industrial robotics and MES/OPC familiarity desirable.
• Willingness to travel UK and internationally.

Software & Controls Engineer

Location: Somerset

Salary: Up to £50,000 + travel allowance + car allowance

Avanti Recruitment is working with a specialist engineering business that designs and delivers complex automated machinery and control systems for customers in the UK and internationally.

Due to a strong project pipeline, they are looking for a Software & Controls Engineer to join their growing engineering team.

This is an opportunity for an engineer who wants more than purely desk-based PLC programming. You'll take ownership of projects from controls design and software development through to machine testing, commissioning and final customer acceptance.

The Role

Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll be responsible for:

PLC and HMI programming

• Electrical control system and schematic design
• Developing, testing and debugging machine software
• Drives and servo integration
• Supporting robotics and vision-system integration
• Machine safety and control systems
• FAT and SAT activities
• Commissioning machinery at partner and customer sites
• Supporting projects from initial design through to customer acceptance

What We’re Looking For

Strong Siemens PLC programming experience is the key requirement.

You’ll ideally also have experience with some of the following:

• Allen-Bradley / Rockwell
• HMI development
• Electrical schematics
• Drives and servo systems
• Industrial machinery or automation
• Machine commissioning
• Industrial robotics
• MES / OPC / industrial networking
• Machinery safety systems

You don't need to tick every box.

The business is willing to invest in formal manufacturer-backed technical training for strong engineers who have gaps in some of the secondary technologies.

You’ll need to be comfortable travelling to manufacturing partners and customer sites within the UK and internationally.
