Qualifications

  • Proficiency in IEC 61131-3 programming (ST preferred, FBD, SFC, LLD).
  • Experience in software/systems design lifecycle.
  • In-depth knowledge of network & serial communication protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Develop software for PLCs, PACs, and HMIs.
  • Conduct system testing to ensure reliability.
  • Troubleshoot Orbital systems in the field.

Skills

Proficiency in IEC 61131-3 programming
Experience in software/systems design lifecycle

Reporting To: Senior Software Engineer
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am 5pm, WFH 2 days a week

Job Overview:

As a Software Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for programming, designing, and commissioning software solutions for industrial control systems. You will work closely with internal teams and clients to ensure high-quality system performance, from development through to implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop software for PLCs, PACs, and HMIs.

Produce and maintain design documentation.

Conduct system testing to ensure reliability and efficiency.

Commission integrated systems at client sites.

Troubleshoot Orbital systems in the field and provide technical support.

Maintain development/design records in line with Orbital's QA system.

Assist team members with technical issues and knowledge sharing.

Support other engineering disciplines within the design team.

Attend and contribute to design working group meetings.

Up to £60,000 annual base salary

25 days annual leave + bank/public holidays

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

Proficiency in IEC 61131-3 programming (ST preferred, FBD, SFC, LLD).

Experience in software/systems design lifecycle.

In-depth knowledge of network & serial communication protocols.

Understanding of Control & Instrumentation Engineering and gas industry standards.

Knowledge of Operational Technology Cyber Security.

Experience with multiple PLC platforms (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.).
