Qualifications

• Commercial software testing experience with hands-on functional testing and automated QA.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of software testing across multiple customer projects, creating structured test scenarios and ensuring new functionality performs as expected before release.
• Develop and expand automated testing across user interfaces, APIs and regression suites.
• Recreate warehouse operations within simulated environments to assess software behaviour and identify integration issues before systems reach customer sites.
• Investigate defects from identification to resolution, working with Developers to verify fixes and minimise recurrence.
• Support wider project delivery including system integration testing, commissioning and go-live activities when required.

Express Recruitment are delighted to be representing a rapidly growing automation and controls specialist who are continuing to expand their software capability across the UK.

Our client is looking for an experienced Test Engineer / QA professional to take ownership of software quality across the delivery of complex warehouse automation projects. You’ll be testing software that directly controls live warehouse equipment, making this a particularly hands‑on role where identifying issues before deployment is critical. This is a rapidly growing industry and offers the opportunity to join a growing business allowing for future career development beyond this position.

Working alongside Software Developers, Business Analysts and Commissioning Engineers, you’ll be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from interpreting requirements and developing test scenarios through to pre‑deployment validation, commissioning and go‑live. A major focus will also be developing the company's automated testing capability and increasing test coverage across future releases.

Due to the project-based nature of the position, there will be occasional requirements to support customer implementations and go‑lives, including some out‑of‑hours work when required and candidates must be based within a commutable distance (3 days per week minimum) of the Nottingham office.

Skills & Experience

• Candidates should be eligible to pass BS7858 Vetting – which requires 5 years UK continuous address history and the client does not offer Visa Sponsorship opportunities.
• Commercial software testing experience encompassing both hands‑on functional testing and automated QA
• Experience using modern automation or API testing technologies such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress or Postman essential
• Comfortable working with databases and SQL, ideally within PostgreSQL environments, alongside experience using structured defect tracking tools such as Jira
• Strong understanding of testing interconnected software systems, APIs and third‑party integrations, with exposure to CI/CD environments beneficial
• Previous exposure to warehouse automation, WCS/WMS, logistics or industrial software would be highly advantageous, alongside familiarity with technologies such as .NET, C#, Python, Django, Blazor or RabbitMQ
• Take ownership of software testing across multiple customer projects, creating structured test scenarios and ensuring new functionality performs as expected before release
• Develop and expand automated testing across user interfaces, APIs and regression suites, helping embed testing more closely within the software release process
• Recreate warehouse operations within simulated environments to thoroughly assess software behaviour and identify integration issues before systems reach customer sites
• Investigate software defects from initial identification through to resolution, working closely with Developers to verify fixes and minimise the risk of recurring problems
• Support wider project delivery including system integration testing, Factory Acceptance Testing, commissioning and go‑live activities when required
