Job summary

Appvia is seeking a Principal Software Architect to lead domain-driven design and define bounded contexts across a cloud-native stack in London with hybrid working.

You will own end-to-end architecture, drive ADRs and the C4 model, and work closely with stakeholders to deliver robust microservices using Java/Spring Boot and TypeScript/React. This role requires real hands-on leadership and a track record of elevating teams.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• The role: Principal Software Architect - Java | DDD | TypeScript | AWS


• Who: Appvia.io - a Cloud, Platform & Software Engineering Consultancy


• Salary: £80k to £100k basic (DOE) + 10% bonus, 10% share options + excellent benefits


• Location: London: hybrid working with a min. of 1 to 2 days per month in office

This role has one non-negotiable: you've actually done it. Not read about it, not advised on it, not sat in a workshop and drawn boxes. You've actually led domain discovery with real business stakeholders, defined bounded contexts that made sense of a messy domain, and delivered microservice architectures where the boundaries came from the business, not the tech.

About you:

• Deep, hands-on DDD: strategic and tactical patterns applied to complex systems in production. Not theory, not advisory. Done it.


• Domain discovery leadership: Event Storming, domain storytelling, or equivalent. You drive the room, you don't just facilitate it


• End-to-end architectural ownership: ADRs, C4, defending decisions confidently at senior stakeholder level


• Java / Spring Boot as your core: TypeScript / React alongside it. Close enough to the code to be credible with engineers


• A consulting mindset: you translate messy business problems into clean, scalable technical solutions


• A genuine track record of raising the bar: mentoring engineers, leaving teams and codebases better than you found them
