SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS ENGINEER

COVENTRY, NORWICH, PAISLEY

What you will be doing:

An opportunity has arisen for a Software Applications Engineer to join the team at Lintott, a Galliford Try business.

The main purpose of the role is to design, construct, and test PLC, HMI, and/or SCADA software and to produce associated documentation (such as Functional Design Specifications and Test Plans) that fully complies with Standards and contractual requirements.

  1. Understand and interpret the functional/control/system requirements of the project/requirement.
  2. Design documents including I/O lists, FDS, SDS, test documents, etc., based on requirements.
  3. Program PLCs and HMIs (including Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi) and configure SCADA systems (Wonderware, Rockwell, Siemens). Training will be provided where necessary.
  4. Deliver projects on-time and within budget, in accordance with Standards and contractual requirements.
  5. Demonstrate expertise in computer/PLC logic and flow-charting.
  6. Understand low voltage electrical systems and drawings.
  7. Attend customer sites as required, upholding the Company’s Culture and Values.
  8. Review and repair legacy code when necessary.
  9. Conduct system analysis and development, keeping systems current with changing technologies.
  10. Test programs to ensure correctness and compliance with FDS and Test Plans.
  11. Document code clearly and consistently, ensuring understanding by others and compliance with standards.
  12. Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills for professional interaction.
  13. Perform scalability and portability analysis when needed.
  14. Assist in developing and harmonizing the Company’s processes and knowledge systems.

About You:

  • Excellent IT skills, including Word, Spreadsheets, and Databases.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems and logic auto-generation.
  • Mechanical skills and understanding.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems.
  • Experience writing PLC code in a customer-focused environment.
  • Strong report writing skills, including FDS and Test Plans.
  • Health and Safety awareness.
  • Experience in industries such as Automotive, Food & Beverage, Water & Waste.
