Software Applications Engineer

Locations: Coventry, Norwich, Paisley

What you will be doing:

Join Lintott, a Galliford Try business, as a Software Applications Engineer. Your main responsibility is to design, construct, and test PLC, HMI, and SCADA software, producing documentation like Functional Design Specifications and Test Plans that meet standards and contractual requirements.

  • Interpret project requirements and design documents.
  • Program PLCs and HMIs (e.g., Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi) and configure SCADA systems (e.g., Wonderware, Rockwell, Siemens). Training will be provided where necessary.
  • Deliver projects on time and within budget, adhering to standards and contractual obligations.
  • Demonstrate expertise in computer/PLC logic and flow-charting.
  • Understand low voltage electrical systems and drawings.
  • Attend customer sites as required, upholding company values.
  • Review and repair legacy code when necessary.
  • Conduct system analysis and development, keeping systems current with technological advances.
  • Test and validate programs for correctness and compliance.
  • Document code clearly for internal and external understanding, complying with standards.
  • Maintain strong communication skills and professionalism with clients and colleagues.
  • Perform scalability and portability analyses as needed.
  • Assist in developing company processes and knowledge systems.

About You:

  • Excellent IT skills including Word, Excel, and databases.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems and logic auto-generation.
  • Mechanical and electrical understanding.
  • Experience writing PLC code in a customer-focused environment.
  • Strong report writing skills, including FDS and Test Plans.
  • Health and Safety awareness.
  • Experience in industries like Automotive, Food & Beverage, or Water & Waste.
