Job summary

BMS Performance Ltd. is seeking a Software & Controls Engineer to lead control systems design for bespoke machinery. You will develop PLC/HMI programs, integrate robotics, and coordinate safety systems from specification through testing and commissioning in the UK and overseas.

Based in Taunton, Somerset, you will collaborate with mechanical engineers and customers, travel regularly internationally, and contribute to projects with demanding technical requirements.

Qualifications

• Degree in Control or Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience in PLC and HMI programming, Siemens and Mitsubishi preferred.
• Servo drive commissioning and machinery safety knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead control systems design and integration for complex machinery.
• Program PLC/HMI, integrate robotics and MES, ensure safe operation.
• Support testing, installation and commissioning in the UK and abroad.

Job description

• Take ownership of complex automation projects from initial design through to commissioning and customer handover
• Work with PLCs, HMIs, servo drives and 6-axis robotics on bespoke industrial machinery
• Earn up to £60,000 including allowances, with regular opportunities for international travel

The Role

As a Software & Controls Engineer, you'll lead the control systems design and integration of complex machinery, covering PLC/HMI programming, robotics, safety systems and MES integration. You'll work closely with mechanical engineers and customers, supporting projects from initial specification through to testing, installation and commissioning in the UK and overseas.

Requirements

• Degree in Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Experience in PLC and HMI programming, ideally using Siemens and Mitsubishi, alongside servo drive commissioning.
• Experience with complex machinery, control system integration and commissioning, with knowledge of machinery safety standards.
• Full right to work in the UK without sponsorship and willingness to travel regularly, including internationally.
