Job description

Job Title: Teacher - Sociology

Location: Bedford

Contract Type: Fixed Term - Part Time (18.75 hours per week)

Salary: £31,930 - £36,878 per annum (pro rata) - DOE and Qualifications

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated sixth form college team focused on delivering high quality education to 16-18 year-olds. You'll inspire students through innovative teaching, helping them thrive academically and personally.



Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Learning



  • Deliver engaging, well-planned lessons in Sociology (and Criminology, if applicable).
  • Inspire and motivate learners, fostering curiosity and critical thinking.
  • Assess, monitor, and record student progress, providing meaningful feedback.
  • Support high achievement and contribute to the Sixth Form's retention and success targets.




Curriculum Development



  • Actively contribute to the development and improvement of the Sociology curriculum.
  • Organise subject-specific enrichment activities, such as trips and guest speakers.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety within the classroom environment.

Student Support



  • Provide pastoral and academic support, encouraging student development and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to enrichment and promotional events such as Open Evenings and Progress Reviews.

Compliance & Professionalism



  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity policies.
  • Engage in performance reviews and professional development activities.
  • Work collaboratively with staff across departments to enhance the student experience.
Candidate Profile:

Qualifications



  • Degree in Sociology or a closely related subject.
  • Certificate in Education (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade A-C.

Experience



  • Recent experience teaching Sociology and/or Criminology.
  • Experience teaching in a Sixth Form or Further Education environment.
  • Proven track record of student achievement.
  • Confident use of ILT (Information Learning Technology) to support teaching.
