Job summary

The University of Southampton's Languages, Cultures and Linguistics department invites applications for a fixed-term, 12-month research-only position to support the ABDAVic project. The role focuses on designing and running sociolinguistic experiments, including creating auditory stimuli, and analyzing results for dissemination.

Applicants with a PhD in experimental social research or related fields are encouraged, including those in sociology, psychology or political science.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in survey design and using Qualtrics for data collection.
• Strong skills in R or Python for statistical analysis, data visualization and mixed effects models.
• Ability to contribute to conference abstracts and journal articles, with at least one lead author.
• Applicants with PhDs in experimental social research or related fields are welcome.
• Experience in language/ethnicity or language and social class is preferred.
• Experience with phonetics and Praat/Audacity is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support design and implementation of experiments for ABDVIC project.
• Create auditory stimuli for experiments.
• Analyze results and disseminate findings through reports, talks and articles.
• Contribute to conference abstracts and eventual journal articles, with at least one lead author.
• Collaborate across disciplines in sociolinguistics and related fields.
