With a keen eye for detail, understanding complex information, and succinctly communicating its meaning, you’ll be part of a small team at the heart of the business, optimizing member and business value.

Who Are We?

Not just another building society. Not just another job. We’re the fourth biggest building society and mutual organisation in the UK. Mutuality makes us different as we don't have shareholders; we're owned by our members.

Our colleagues say Skipton's a great place to work, and you could be one of them, bringing new ideas on how we can keep customers at the heart of what we do. Whatever your background and goals, we'll help you take the next step towards a better future.

Meet The Team

We’re strengthening our FP&A team and broadening its remit to cover Group stress testing and forecasting activities, facilitating opportunities to leverage the Group’s potential.

The Society Cost Management Group Financial Performance team consists of 6 colleagues working with financial business partners, business lines, and executive teams. Our core role is to understand, report, and forecast business performance, identify risks and opportunities, and drive cost efficiency. We interpret data to provide insights that impact strategic decisions and enhance customer satisfaction.

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Leading cost management, partnering, budgeting/forecasting, and month-end cost reporting.
  • Understanding business priorities and ensuring the cost team meets these needs.
  • Tracking and managing threats and opportunities to the cost base.
  • Ensuring costs are accurately posted to appropriate ledgers and cost centres.
  • Adding value through proportionate month-end activities.
  • Collaborating with Financial Accounting and Financial Reporting teams to ensure result accuracy.
  • Reviewing processes to maintain quality of services.
  • Delivering excellent service to internal customers.

What Do We Need From You?

  • Strong communication skills to interpret and explain accounting and technical matters clearly.
  • Excellent planning, analytical, and modelling skills for understanding and challenging complex models.
  • Flexibility and drive to support a changing, growing business.
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, self-starter attitude.
  • Good commercial understanding and ability to translate operational plans into financial outcomes.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to high-quality outputs.
  • Experience in cost management, ideally within financial services.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships and collaborate across teams.
  • Strong leadership skills to earn trust and respect from the team and senior management.
  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA/CIMA/ACA) with post-qualification experience preferred.

What’s In It For You?

  • Support for hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
  • Refurbished head office with vibrant, collaborative space.
  • Benefits including annual discretionary bonus, 25 days holiday + bank holidays, rising to 30 days, holiday trading scheme, employer pension contributions (up to 10%), colleague mortgage options, salary sacrifice schemes, private medical insurance, volunteering days, and inclusive colleague networks.
  • Health and wellbeing initiatives like cycle to work and gym discounts.
